I lived in CA for 3 years, kept out of state plates and insurance because of this.   Insurance would have been more than double, they said I was 'high risk' since I never drove in CA before  lol

Fuggem.

The value of not living in Florida has a cost. Not everyone can afford that luxury. Florida is where losers go because they can’t afford to be losers inc First World States.

I wonder if there is any way to avoid paying tolls?

No it isn't. There are numerous alternatives to most Florida toll roads.

Sure. That's fine. I don't think that is what the person meant, though.

I found the same thing when we moved to Idaho.   MY CA Nitro Reg was over $800 for a year, my IDAHO reg was under $100  for TWO YEARS, and included a PARKS PASS!   This is not to mention the gas taxes and parking enforcement fines, a major expense in San Francisco.

NOW, in addition to all the other taxes, the SENATE (CA) has passed the MILEAGE TAX which will charge you per mile driven in CA - IN ADDITION TO ALL THE OTHER TAXES!!

Also, when moving out of CA, you MUST DE-REGISTER your car there, otherwise CA will consider you delinquent (it doesn't matter that you registered in your new state), and empty your bank account when the fines reach a few thousand dollars.   They do this every day.

California is a criminal state with a heavily armed police force.

You can drive I-75 or I-95, I suppose.  Outside of that, there are PLENTY of toll roads.

I had to drive around Orlando at Thanksgiving for a job.  Ran up $100+ in tolls in just over a week.

There are numerous alternatives to most toll roads. The only places you cannot avoid them are things like Key Biscayne and similar, where the only way on to the islands is by toll road (unless going by boat).

That can compute to another $4,200 per year that California wants to take from you in order for them to keep spending wildly.

Toll roads taxes are horribly regressive. They fall mainly on the workaday stiffs, while the wealthy get to enjoy no income tax.

It's really sick.
