I don’t think an enormous shallow pool is an appropriate thing to honor Lincoln.

It isn’t useful, not really pretty, a maintenance headache, bad water feature. In a swamp like DC at least have the water moving in fountains, not stagnant and funky.

More appropriate would be a pure field of wheat, or even native wildflowers, as a landscape statement. Mass plantings of ornamental grasses are very profound, move like waves in the wind, look like the American prairie, and require very little care once established. More Lincolnesque and bootstrappy.

If they feel pissy about a rectangular field of grasses or grain, mow paths in it in patterns or freeform.

Trump is doing a good job with what he has to work with.
He didn’t design & commission this POS but will have it presentable.
