Clean drinking water isn’t a guaranteed right under the U.S. Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit — in a 10-5 ruling — said the alleged contamination in Jackson, Mississippi, did not violate rights protected by the Fourteenth Amendment.

Engelhardt noted that the city’s mismanagement, which residents blame for their lead exposure, falls outside the constitutional protection.

“It is undisputed that the Constitution does not guarantee clean water,” the court said.

The court also found no constitutional right to truthful information from government officials during a public health crisis.

It's a fundamental flaw in our current system.  Property rights (mostly of billionaires) are valued above any other human rights.  That needs to change.

There's a big difference between property rights for a single family who bought their home and want to keep it versus some billionaire suing because the government won't let them and their misery factory continue dumping toxic waste into the water which 10 million people drink.

Currently the courts value the property rights of the wealthy over the well being of the general population and that is totally wrong.  You can call it whatever "-ism" you like but I consider it to be common sense that we need to take care of our people and maximize human happiness and well being instead.  Put simply, would you rather you and your family be happy, healthy and free.  Or would you rather literally eat and drink shyt, breathe toxic air, have your family members die off of cancer, etc. so that Billionaire who lives 300 miles away can have yet another yacht?

Reminder: There hasnt been a White mayor of Jackson since 1993.

There hasnt been a republican mayor since the 1800s.

This is a democrat problem.
