23 years of working US shifts from India.

At this point, I don’t have a body clock. I have a US client calendar.

People say, “You work at night, so your whole day is free!”

Sure. And people working during the day have their whole night free… why waste it sleeping?

Jokes apart, after 23 years I’ve learned that night shift isn’t just a schedule, it’s a lifestyle your body never signed up for.

For those doing it for 10+ years, sleep, family time, health and mental well-being need conscious protection.

To families: sleeping during the day isn’t laziness. That is our night.

To colleagues: if someone finished at 3 AM, an 11 AM “quick call” isn’t really quick. Their soul is still buffering.

To onshore leaders: when your India team says “Good Morning” at 9 PM, remember they may already have lived an entire day before starting work.

Give them flexibility. Respect their off-hours. Encourage vacations. And sometimes ask “How are you doing?” before “How are the numbers doing?”

After 23 years, my biggest learning:

Take your career seriously—but take your health, family and peace of mind even more seriously.

Now, you know why they want cheap labor here.

Maybe this fuqer would rather work as a rice farmer in a rural village.
