I'm sure they are.   My Zombie Bum invasion reference was to the area WE evacuated from.   My wife just headed to work, and it's still dark outside.  I have no worries about her safety.

There is NO FUQING WAY I would allow her to take her old San Francisco commute nowadays.  That would be reckless endangerment.

Look, I get it.  I'm NOT saying to turn into Nazi Germany here.  But what ought to happen when there is a mandatory evacuation is residents should be allowed 8 hours to get the hell out.  After that send in the police and National Guard and do house to house sweeps.  Anyone found gets forcibly removed and possibly fined.  Anyone who does this multiple times faces criminal charges.  Stop with the games.  Sometimes the government simply needs to protect people from their own stupidity.

We have out bug-out bags always ready to go and we always leave 3 days before a hurricane is forecast to impact anywhere in Florida.  We can literally be on the road within 60 minutes of making our decision to leave. 

During hurricane season the car we would use is always kept at least a 3/4 tank of gas. 525 miles to the cabin and we can make it on a single tank of gas if we watch our speed.
