E. Jean Carroll has finally received the $5.62 million (including interest) that a federal jury awarded her in 2023 for sexual abuse and defamation by Donald Trump.

The payment was delayed for years due to legal appeals and procedural battles, but the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 29 decision not to hear Trump’s appeal cleared the way for the funds to be released.

Carroll publicly celebrated the outcome, calling it a victory for women.

Trump attempted additional legal maneuvers to delay the payment even after the Supreme Court’s rejection; Carroll’s attorney described these efforts as “gamesmanship.”

The original jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation but did not find him liable for rape under New York’s specific legal definition.

The judge later wrote that Carroll’s description of rape was “substantially true” under modern standards.

Carroll’s case included testimony from other women and the infamous Access Hollywood tape to establish a pattern of behavior.

Carroll, now 82, still has another major case pending: an $83 million defamation judgment from 2024, which Trump is also appealing and may take to the Supreme Court.
