AI mostly got the diagram correct. I was trying to calculate how much chain is needed. I think it is about 20". I saw a couple different formulas online. Probably best to just do trial and error.

It seems like a little extra shouldn't be a problem, as long as you have space for it.

Yes, this was my thought. I think the only question is how much pivot the chain anchor has. It basically needs to pivot 90 degrees to prevent binding. Otherwise I might have to print something.

You can accomplish the same by using a brass eyelet with a threaded shaft set in the right side inside, then use a rubber band around the cables to maintain tension in that direction.

it's ot of sight so function being the same is the point, it's also not industrial, so the mechanical guide probably isn't needed.

and that's going to be really hard to actually install.
