Justice Department officials held a news conference in Washington to announce the charge as part of its efforts to promote "election integrity." Federal prosecutors have made possible voter fraud — which is rare — a priority, as President Donald Trump insists without evidence that noncitizens are voting en masse and has sought to limit mail-in ballots. The Supreme Court last week refused to allow the president's mail-in restrictions to be enforced.

Trump has repeatedly made false claims that he won the 2020 election and has falsely claimed he won the popular vote in 2016, yet the Trump administration has struggled during both terms to bring cases showing evidence of significant voter fraud. That's despite a massive effort in Trump's second term to obtain voter registration records from states in an attempt to determine if there were any noncitizens registered.

In any large system there are going to be edge cases.

A variant of the barcoding proposals from the Trump administration would be a good thing. Not his particular implementation approach which is about suppressing votes. But a version could be put in place that improves traceability.

The approach we use in Cook County is very good.

Widespread fraud is simply not a thing. There are a few small cases here and there and they are being caught and prosecuted. The current system works fine. Also Republicans don’t really give a shyt about fraud they just want to
stop Democrats from voting. This fraud obsession is bullshyt and everybody can see it. 

The real fraud here is the GOP.
