What if WE are space aliens?

This new Earth-like planet is 20 light years away. It would take something like 330,000 years for us to reach it by spaceship traveling at Voyager I speeds.

We might be able to find a faster way to go if we didn't have to send humans along. Say we were facing certain doom and we wanted to just send some of frozen life matter and DNA that would eventually evolve. That would probably be our first attempt to reach that planet. Hmm, that would be the spark of Life scientists haven't quite figured out. Also sounds like the Biblical Adam and Eve story.

Maybe another civilization spotted Earth as an Earth-like planet that could support life and either sent the basics of life to get things started here. They could be watching their scientific experiment from afar or they may not be around anymore.

Re: What if WE are space aliens?

Maybe some aliens had a picnic here, and we evolved from the trash they left behind.

Astrobiology is pretty certain basic life arose on earth. The conditions at that time were both extraordinary and suitable for carbon based life to emerge.

In fact, the conditions at primordial earth were so extraordinary that some believe nothing like it could exist in our vicinity within several thousands of light years.

We could be alone. This angle has to be considered. If we are alone, we need to take pretty damn good care of life and spread diversity throughout the universe. sadbanana

Maybe they had sex on the lawn after lunch, and we evolved from the juices left on the ground..... naughty

This is true.  Now that we are detecting planets, and their atmospheres, we will have to consider Disneys' The Black Hole as a plausible possibility - we could be spending trillions to search for life where none exists.

That being said, we still need to search for life, to prove that it does not exist elsewhere.

So now we can detect the atmosphere on a planet 20 light years away?

You are almost as delusional as Auric.

That is what they are working on now, and its 5-10 years down the pipeline.

Remember, 10 years ago, it was "impossible" to see planets around other stars?

How am I delusional? wtf Besides, it's getting there. Several incredibly high precision instruments are currently in the works that may well enable us to peek into the makings of an exo-planet.

Try to keep up. Science is progressing at break-neck speeds.

Apparently the only reason they can't search the atmosphere of this planet is because it doesn't eclipe the star, so their usual spectral filters will not work.

I hope we send a probe - even if it won't arrive for 33,000 years, it will still be a major technological achievement.

Life is a cycle that repeats itself. not long from now we will engage the machines in a war we will lose. the remnants of humanity will journey to the planet in the article and and start from scratch / cylon

how will they journey to that planet without machines?

Old space ships that dont use smart technology.
