Perhaps all they could do was interrupt power.  Notice the power goes out, comes back on, goes out again.   But that could just be a malfunction.

How often is there a total power failure on cargo ships from malfunction?   Are there mechanical backups for the rudder-by-wire?  Backup power for bow thrusters?

If an adversary figured out how to cause a cargo ship to crash into something, why just do it once?   Why not hit as many ships as possible while the vulnerability exists?

So many questions.

It is a good question:   How often do the entire power systems of a giant ship JUST FAIL?  Then, how does such a massive power system JUST COME BACK ON AGAIN?   That has to be a massively HUGE switch, not like the circuit breaker to your kitchen lights.  Who or what is operating that?   Then off again, then on, and then off again.   

I don't pretend to have an answer.   Only "Sheriffs of Everything" can do that.
