The threat of frost is over, but cool can still hurt tomato plants.   We're still planting.

Yes, we do get days and daylight.  I guess the smoke from all the choo choo trains blots out the spring sun in some Frontier villages.    But, he's in prison today, right?

No.   I tried the composted manure on the corn crop one year, but that didn't do anything.    What seems to work very well is our home made compost.  Kitchen scraps and some yard trimmings.  It cooks down into a nice soil.   Then a leaf mulch made from the maple leaves and grass clippings on top to hold water and the temperature. 

A tablespoon of Miracle Gro powder with about 2 1/2 gallons of water, gets things off to a good start. 

Today, I got 2 artichokes planted in their big pots, with squirrel cages protecting them.  I added 6 new strawberry plants to the patch, cleared a lot of weeds out of there and added plant food.   That should get things going.   I also added black tye straps to the strawberry cage.   Some of the old white ones went away.   

Tomorrow, I may get to cucumbers and melons.  I may have to keep the tomatoes warm for a couple more nights.

By the way, recovering from that oral surgery is going really well.   The clousures in my mouth may be a little sore, but they are mostly  pain free.    This morning, I had bacon, hash browns and an egg.   Chicken and a genuine Idaho potato for dinner.
