It’s a huge & upscale modern hotel, I figured it would be Americanized and comfortable with A/C and lots of room, with a pool.
There are several famous grand Italian hotels elsewhere on the lake in more exclusive towns, but I didn’t want to swelter during a heat wave.
When checking into the room in the Hilton, it was terribly hot inside because the A/C is completely off until you physically occupy the room
The A/C was very weak & warm and took hours to bring the room to somewhat OK, but was clearly never ever going to be able to chill down like a US hotel.
Then we discover the A/C has a motion sensor, so when you leave your room for 3 minutes or 6 hours, the A/C shuts itself off and does not restart until you get back
then cooling down the room had to start all over.
Luckily it was not as severe a heatwave as this year.

this is where board libs like to say It never happened and I’ve never left Dixie
It was not my first time or last time at Lake Como, and the city of Como where the Hilton is located isn’t really the best town. But it is the closest thing to a real city with 2 train stations & large ferry stations. For the next trip decided to rent a home in one of the more fairytale cities, and this home boasted A/C. It had a photo of the minisplit unit. Better yet, it was for sale in a town where hardly any properties are listed, they are all bought & sold privately. After the hot AC experience at the Hilton we were ready to have control over the inside temp, and would consider buying a place if we had to.
