I am having trouble choosing between a pair of $2,000 headphones and a pair of $3,000 headphones.

Pass a law raising my taxes - and the taxes of everyone in my financial position and those in a better position - by $3,000 (or more) and allocate the money exclusively to social services.

Why wait for taxes to actively take the money? There are plenty of trannies openly in distress over their neovaginas smelling like sewers sad you can contact them directly. Try to tell them they can chop their dongs off if they want, but not to form a cavern of dead phony vagina.

I have a lot of headphones that are variations on “neutral” or largely within preference bounds. Meze is known for making headphones that are opinionated and vary from preference bounds. In particular they are known for V-shaped sound signatures with some soupy midbass, some recesss in the ear gain region, and some peaks in the upper treble. I have some 99 Classics and they are fun headphones for a narrow set of music like classic rock or alternative. This is generally known to be the “house sound” at Meze. Nothing wrong with it. In fact, I am seeking it out right now.

$3000 seems steep for headphones, honestly. What are you using them for? I'd rather put $3,000 into speakers that everyone can enjoy.

I already have $3,000 speakers. My wife won’t let me listen to them loud though. sadwave

Private charity is inefficient and ineffective. I won’t waste my money on that.

True. Big Daddy government is much better at spending your money and making sure it goes in the right pockets.

Correct. The government is very efficient, effective, and fair.

The red line is the Poet. The orange line is the Empyrean 2. Grey area is preference bounds of the population.  The stuff between 100 and 300 is "soup." The dip around 2k gives you a nice soundstage effect. That low area 3-4k is the ear gain region where your ear expects more sound there so without it, vocals can be less forward. All that treble above 6k completes the V-shape and whether or not you like it is highly subjective. This is the Meze "house sound." That said the Empyrean is a lot less abnormal than the Poet.

They bring an ethereal 'something' to the presentation that defies science.

Since we have been talking about Meze I decided to listen to the 99 Classixs tonight.

I listened to Rumours as part of a 100 album, 20 genre listening project I am doing over the next two years. Maybe I should post about that.

They really helped highlight the driving power of Mick Fleeteood’s drums. There was a little mud / soup in the mid bass on songs like Go Your Own Way.

There are two bars of silence on The Chain at about 1:30. If you have resolving headphones or speakers you can head Lindsey Buckingham count in a whisper during the second bar: 1 2 3 4. Once you know it is there you can plan to listen for it. I was able to hear it but not as obvious on these as on more resolving headphones.

Overall these were well matched to the album.

With decent headphones you can hear more during the two bars of silence on The Chain at about 1:30.

Listen again.
You can hear the sound engineer scratch his butt in the booth.

I am leaning towards the Empyrean II. Do you own it?
