U.S. distillate fuel stocks (diesel, jet fuel, heating oil) are achieving new record lows every day.

Just in time for midterms and the heating season in the northern swing states.  Lotta people in Maine, PA, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa use fuel oil to heat their homes.

U.S. inventories of diesel have fallen to the lowest-ever level, threatening to push prices even higher for the fuel as the winter heating and agricultural seasons approach.

Stocks of distillate fuel oil, which include diesel, fell last week by 2.2M barrels to 103.4M barrels, 14% below the five-year average and the lowest ever in data stretching back to the early 1980s, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday.

Global diesel demand typically rises around October with the beginning of the winter heating season and harvests in the Northern Hemisphere, which coupled with precariously low stockpiles could lift prices and spark further energy-driven inflation.

Retail diesel prices in the U.S. have already climbed above $5.60/gal, the highest since the start of the U.S.-Iran war, amid dwindling exports of refined fuels through the Strait of Hormuz.
